Mikako Koda và Tsutomu Yamaguchi là 2 học sinh cùng học trường Yazawa Geijyutsu Gakuen, một ngôi trường cấp 3 chuyên về nghệ thuật tại Tokyo (được đặt tên theo tác giả, người sau đó đóng vai hiệu trưởng nhà trường) và sống trong cùng một khu tập thể, nơi họ đã làm bạn với nhau từ khi còn bé lọt lòng. Neighborhood Story (ご近所物語 Gokinjo Monogatari) là một bộ manga do Ai Yazawa sáng tác. Nó được Shueisha xuất bản từ 1995 đến 1998 trên tạp chí Ribon. Sau đó đã được Toei Animatio dựng thành anime gồm 50 tập, phát sóng trên TV Asahi từ 10/9/1995 đến 1/9/1996, các dụng cụ được Bandai thiết kế. Bộ phim cùng tên được dàn dựng năm 1996, một drama CD và nhạc nền cũng được phát hành. Bắt đầu từ 19/9/2005, Gokinjo Monogatari bắt đầu tái bản lại với số lượng có hạn.
